The Joint Commission (TJC) has announced a new Perinatal Care (PC) performance measure, PC-06 Unexpected Complications in Term Newborns, effective January 1, 2019. This new measure will apply to TJC-accredited hospitals with 300 or more live births per year and to all TJC-accredited hospitals seeking Perinatal Care certification.

According to TJC, this new measure will “…require hospitals to identify the percentage of infants with unexpected newborn complications among full-term newborns with no preexisting conditions.” TJC’s intention is to address a current lack of metrics to assess outcomes for term infants.
