Joint Commission Proposes New Pain Assessment Requirements for Critical Access Hospital, Ambulatory Care, Office-Based Surgery

The Joint Commission (TJC) is seeking commenst on proposed new pain assessment requirements for their Critical Access Hospital, Ambulatory Care, Office-Based surgery accreditation programs.

According to TJC, the intention of these proposed requirements is to:

  • Emphasize active participation of both administrative and physician leadership in pain management and safe opioid prescribing protocols.
  • Strengthen organizations’ practices for pain assessment, treatment, education, and monitoring.

TJC is seeking input from individuals involved in pain assessment and management. Comments will be accepted through May 22, 2018.
