The International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) has released a new industry guideline titled “Threat Management” which provides a framework for healthcare organizations to proactively identify and manage threats of violence. The guideline which is accessible for a limited time (link provided below) encourages health care facilities to “…establish a process and multi-disciplinary team to identify, assess, validate, mitigate and respond to threats of violence or other behaviors of concern.”

According to the guideline, Threat Management includes, but is not limited to:

  • Education and training programs for all employees that address the prevention, recognition, response and reporting of threats, acts of aggression and other behaviors of concern.
  • Processes for receiving, interpreting, validating, responding to, and managing threats and behaviors of concern.

IAHSS is a professional organization dedicated to supporting professionals involved in managing and directing security and safety programs in health care facilities.
