TJC Seeks Input on Proposed New Requirements for Pain Assessment and Management in BHC Accreditation Program

The Joint Commission (TJC) is seeking input on updates to their pain assessment and management standards for Behavioral Health Care organizations. According to the TJC, the updates are intended to promote patient safety and quality of care and also align requirements with current recommendations from scientific, professional, governmental literature and reports. Comments will be accepted through October 16, 2018.

The proposed new requirements are applicable to specific programs or services and a note at the beginning of the EP indicates the setting or circumstances under which the new EP is applicable.

The new requirements are:

  • HRM.01.05.01, EP 11
  • CTS.02.01.09, EP 3
  • MM.01.01.01, EP 3
