Joint Commission Announces Standards Revisions for Medication Compounding Certification and Home Care Medication Compounding

The Joint Commission (TJC) has announced that it has revised several requirements in their Medication Compounding (MDC) certification program and the Home Care accreditation program’s “Medication Compounding” (MC) chapter.

According to TJC, most of the revisions are “…editorial in nature…” The revisions for both programs ensure that TJC requirements are consistent with current USP 795 (Pharmaceutical Compounding—Nonsterile Preparations) and 797 (Pharmaceutical Compounding—Sterile Preparations).

The revisions are effective January 1, 2019. A link to the prepublication standards is provided below. Also included with today’s notice is an example policy that reflects the revisions.
