CMS Revises Home Health Prospective Payment System Booklet

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently revised their Home Health Prospective Payment System (HH PPS) Booklet. It includes:

  • Background on the Home Health Prospective Payment System
  • Consolidated billing requirements
  • Criteria that must be met to qualify for home health services and therapy services
  • Physician billing and payment

Until the implementation of the HH PPS on October 1, 2000, HHAs received payment under a retrospective reimbursement system. Section 4603(a) of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 mandated the development of a HH PPS for all Medicare-covered home health services furnished under a plan of care paid on a reasonable cost basis by adding Section 1895 of the Social Security Act.

The Booklet is an excellent resource for Home Health providers.
