The Joint Commission (TJC) has released a new element of performance (EP) in their Life Safety Chapter that is effective January 1, 2020. This new EP is applicable to hospitals, critical access hospitals and ambulatory care organizations accredited by the Joint Commission.

TJC LS.01.01.01 requires organizations to design and manage the physical environment in a manner that ensures compliance with the Life Safety Code. The new EP requires organizations to maintain current basic building information (BBI) within the organization’s statement of conditions. BBI typically includes the features of a building occupancy, e.g., sprinklers, fire alarm systems, etc.

Included with today’s notice is an example Life Safety Management Plan.
