The Joint Commission (TJC) has announced that, effective July 1, 2017, numerous elements of performance (EPs) are deleted from their nonhospital programs. The following are the number of deleted EPs per program:

  • Ambulatory Care (AHC): 85
  • Behavioral Health Care (BHC): 63
  • Critical Access Hospitals (CAH): 143
  • Home Care (OME): 65
  • Laboratory (LAB): 50
  • Nursing Care Centers (NCC): 59
  • Office-Based Surgery Practices (OBS): 50

These deletions are a result of TJC’s multi-phased project to streamline and eliminate EPs that are duplicative of other existing EPs, address concerns that are handled by other standards, no longer address quality or safety issues, or are now a part of typical clinical care operations and are no longer needed.
