CDC Corrected VIS for Td Vaccine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an updated Td vaccine information statement that is now available. This update corrects an error in the 2/24/2015 Td VIS. The instruction to talk to your doctor if you "have seizures or another nervous system problem" has been removed. This precaution applies to Tdap vaccine but not to Td, and was inadvertently included on the Td VIS.

Providers may use up existing stocks of the outgoing VIS, but should make patients aware that this is NOT a precaution for Td.

Follow the link below to access the updated VIS.

Vaccine providers are reminded to give the applicable VIS to the vaccine recipient/parent/legal representative prior to administration of a vaccine each time the vaccine is given (not just with the first dose). Documentation in the patient’s permanent medical record should include the name and lot number of the vaccine administered, date of administration, the VIS provided and person administering the vaccine.

Vaccine providers should determine if there are specific State requirements that dictate additional information that must be provided prior to immunization administration.
