CMS Rescinds Policy Disallowing Hospital Security Units

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently updated a memorandum rescinding a policy that disallowed hospital security units. In the memorandum, Updated Guidance to Surveyors on Federal Requirements for Providing Services to Justice Involved Individuals, CMS removed the requirements for, and all references to, hospital specialty units to ensure that hospitals are able to meet the unique security needs for justice involved individuals receiving treatment.
