| According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), widespread outbreaks of infectious disease after hurricanes are not common in the United States. Rare and deadly exotic disease such as cholera or typhoid do not suddenly break out after hurricanes or floods in areas where such diseases do not naturally occur.
Ailments more likely to occur after a natural diasster include gastrointestional and respiratory conditons due to the lack of clean drinking water and poor hygiene conditions.
