| CMS is proposing to expand coverage for carotid artery stenting. The expanded coverage would allow patients under age 80 to receive the procedure outside clinical trials if their arteries have narrowed by more than 80%. Comments on proposed coverage changes will be accepted through March 3, 2007.
Specifically, CMS is proposing the following changes to the national coverage determination (NCD) for carotid artery stenting:
