| On January 12, 2007, CMS sent a memorandum to State Survey Agency Directors regarding the use of alcohol-based skin preparation in anesthetizing locations in hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) or Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC). The letter addresses risk reduction techniques to permit safe use of alcohol-based skin preparations in inpatient or outpatient anesthetizing locations.
