| In the April 2005 edition of the JCAHO's Quality Improvement Online periodical, an article outlining prevention of surgical fires was published. The article cited Sentinel Event Alert Number 29 related to reducing the risk of surgical fires, and the 2005 National Patient Safety Goal Number 11 (in 2005 pertaining to ambulatory centers and office-based surgery centers, however expanded to include hospitals in the 2006 NPSG) outlines requirements for reducing the risk of surgical fires.
