| The JCAHO has published Sentinel Event Alert Issue 32, October 6, 2004 regarding the prevention and management of the impact of anesthesia awareness. Anesthesia awareness occurs when patients do not receive enough anesthesia to remain unconscious. These patients may be awake during the operative procedure and may be aware of what is happening.
