| The Joint Commission announced their official stance on the use of alcohol-based hand rubs (ABHR) in the March 2006 Joint Commission Perspectives.
National Patient Safety Goal 7A requires healthcare organizations to comply with the current hand hygiene guidelines from the CDC. Healthcare organizations are required to implement all category I recommendations. The Joint Commission also recommends implementing category II recommendations.
