| In 2004, JCAHO issued a rational for its decision to no longer allow roller latches as well as a compliance deadline of March 13, 2006. Standard EC.5.20 states that all hospitals seeking Medicare accreditation must have replaced all of its roller latches on corridor doors with positive latching devices no later than March 13, 2006
CMS's issued a similar rule when it adopted the 2000 edition of the Life Safety Code, noted in the Federal Register on January 10, 2003.
