| The JCAHO, in the August 2004 update to the standards manual has clarified requirements for pain management. The clarification falls under the Provision of Care chapter, standard PC.8.10, the language of the standard has been revised and a rationale statement has been added to the standard. The elements of performance for this standard remains unchanged. The language revision requirements became effective July 1, 2004.
