| The FDA has issued a Public Health Advisory about the dangers of unapproved (off label) use of certain antipsychotic medications which are approved for use in treating schizophrenia, prescribed off label for the use of behavioral disorders in elderly patients with dementia. The FDA states that there is an association of increased mortality with the treatment of elderly dementia patients with atypical antipsychotic (second generation) medications.
