| The Joint Commission (TJC) has clarified National Patient Safety Goal 01.01.01, which requires organizations to use two (2) patient identifiers when giving care, treatment and services, effective January 1, 2009. In a FAQ issued on November 5, 2008, TJC provides additional insight into the requirement of Element of Performance 1 (which states that the patient is involved, aware and awake, if possible) with regards to sleeping patients and/or non-communicative patients. ...
