| The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has launched an EnergySmart Hospitals Initiative to increase the use of energy efficient technologies in hospitals. According to the DOE, hospitals are among the most energy intensive commercial buildings in the U.S., and the goal of the initiative is to obtain 20 percent improved efficiency in existing facilities and 30 percent improvement efficiency over current standards in new construction.
