| The Joint Commission (TJC) standard PC.8.10 requires that pain be assessed in all patients. Pain assessment is an integral component of patient care and can pose particular challenges when the patient is an infant or child. Element of Performance (EP) 6 for PC.8.10 specifically addresses pediatric pain assessment, stating that assessment methods shall be appropriate to patient's age and/or abilities.
